privacy policy

clipbox is built to keep your data on your device. we don't ask you to create an account, we don't sell your data, and we don't track you across apps or websites.

this privacy policy explains what data clipbox handles, why, and what rights you have. it applies to the clipbox ios application ("clipbox", "the app") and to clipbox.ee.

01the short version

• clipbox has no accounts and no sign-up. we never ask for your name, email or phone number to use the app.
• your playlists, videos and notes are stored locally on your device.
• if you subscribe and enable icloud sync, that data is stored in your own icloud account — not on our servers. we have no servers holding your content.
• we do not sell your data, show you advertising, or track you across other apps and websites.
• payment is handled entirely by apple. we never see your card details.

02what clipbox stores on your device

when you use clipbox, the following is created and kept locally on your iphone or ipad:

• your playlist — the order and structure of the videos you've added
• youtube links you paste into the app
• video files you import from your camera roll, including screen recordings and videos you have saved from instagram
• your notes (premium feature)
• app settings and preferences, such as playback options

this data is not transmitted to us. deleting the app removes all locally stored playlist data from your device.

03photo library access

to let you add your own videos, clipbox asks for permission to access your photo library. this permission is used solely to let you select videos to add to your playlist. clipbox does not scan, upload, index or read the rest of your photo library, and you can withdraw the permission at any time in settings → privacy & security → photos → clipbox.

04icloud sync (premium)

if you subscribe to clipbox premium and enable icloud sync, your playlists and notes are synchronised across devices signed in to the same apple id using apple's icloud / cloudkit service.

this data is stored in your own icloud account and is subject to apple's privacy policy and icloud terms. USW OÜ cannot access, read or retrieve the contents of your icloud container. we do not receive a copy of your playlists or notes.

you can disable icloud sync in the app, and you can delete synced clipbox data from your icloud storage through settings → [your name] → icloud → manage storage.

05third-party services

clipbox interacts with the following third parties. their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies, not ours:

• youtube / google. youtube videos are played through the youtube iframe player api embedded in the app. when a youtube video plays, google may set cookies and collect data about that playback, including device and usage information, in accordance with the google privacy policy. this happens directly between your device and google — we do not receive that data.
• instagram / meta. clipbox does not connect to your instagram account and does not access instagram on your behalf. videos saved from instagram enter clipbox only as files you choose to import from your own camera roll. your use of instagram itself is governed by meta's policies.
• apple. app distribution, in-app purchases and subscription billing are handled by apple inc. apple provides us with aggregated, anonymised sales and download reporting. we never receive your payment card details, billing address, or apple id credentials. apple's handling of this data is governed by the apple privacy policy.

06analytics, advertising & tracking

clipbox contains no advertising sdks and no third-party tracking sdks. we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. clipbox does not request app tracking transparency permission because it does not track you.

apple may provide us with standard, aggregated app analytics (such as download counts, crash reports and anonymised usage statistics) through app store connect where you have consented to share analytics with developers in your ios settings. this information is aggregated and does not identify you.

07legal bases for processing (gdpr)

where the eu general data protection regulation applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

• performance of a contract (art. 6(1)(b)) — providing the app and its features to you, and administering your subscription.
• consent (art. 6(1)(a)) — photo library access and icloud sync, both of which you enable yourself and can withdraw at any time.
• legitimate interests (art. 6(1)(f)) — keeping the app secure, stable and working correctly, and understanding aggregated usage in order to improve it.

08data retention

because your content stays on your device, retention is in your hands. locally stored data persists until you delete it in the app or delete the app itself. icloud-synced data persists in your icloud account until you remove it. aggregated apple analytics and sales reporting is retained by us only for as long as needed for accounting and business record-keeping obligations under estonian law.

09your rights

if you are in the european economic area, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. because clipbox does not require an account and does not store your content on our systems, in most cases we hold no personal data about you to act on — the fastest route is to manage or delete the data directly on your device and in your icloud settings.

if you believe your data has been handled improperly, you can contact us at info@clipbox.ee, and you have the right to lodge a complaint with the estonian data protection inspectorate (andmekaitse inspektsioon) or the supervisory authority in your country of residence.

10children

clipbox is not directed at children under 13, and you must be at least 13 to use the app. we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. if you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

11international transfers

we are based in estonia and operate within the european union. where third-party services described in section 05 process data outside the eea, those transfers are made under their own safeguards and legal mechanisms, as described in their respective privacy policies.

12changes to this policy

we may update this privacy policy from time to time. the "effective" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. material changes will be communicated through the app store release notes for new versions of clipbox or through other reasonable means.
